hand notes

Just an experiment to see if I like making lists or typing.  Either way, the pendulums move forward.

It may start with an idea

But, you eventually have to order parts if you’re serious of getting a creative effort off the ground.  In order to order parts you have to have building plans and in order to have plans it takes a whole lot of thinking.  You get the idea of how it works and I’m telling you right now, I got parts!  That means I have made a commitment to my own idea…WOW!  No doubt this is news worthy, …well, maybe not so dramatic as I make it sound but it is worthy of making mention of it.  It’s a big leap of faith.  Another failure in the making?   We’ll see.   Next, is a very simple process of what needs to be done with the parts.  I’ll take you with me on the adventure just as soon as I get some pics….

Sparrow shooter is dead

I regret to say that after seven hard years of work, I am abandoning the Sparrow shooter aka, Thunderbird, RBS, or GSAR. In the end, it was a great experience to learn from but the results were not the direction I wanted to become known for. Ultimately, the Sparrow shooter was a tool that eliminated sparrows which in turn kept my Martins from suffering and made it easier for me to deal with the Sparrow problem. Like all Martin Landlords, it’s a problem you have to deal with one way or another and I thought if I could make it easier for me, in turn, I could make it easier for others. But, economically and morally my Gamo “whisper” pellet gun with a nice “Swift” scope provides good results and makes the best sense. It is difficult to obtain the skills of a good marksman and after years of working on my skills all I can say is that I can meet the challenge of protecting my Martin Colony. Designing and building a remote controlled pellet gun was quite the challenge and once I neared completion, I could see the expense and ethical/moral issues would never add up and make good sense. So, it is time to move on and to all of you working at fighting off the sparrows, just keep working at it and you will always be able to maintain control and protect your Martin colony using a good pellet gun and by trapping.

Sculptural Clocks reborn

After a great deal of thought and changes in my age, resources, thinking and conversations that ultimately had great influence over me, etc, I have been able to redirect my attention back to what fascinated me 20+ years ago, my art work.  In the interim, I have learned all kinds of things that will take my past work, building architectural/sculptural clocks, to new and exciting levels I could have never developed any other way.   I really look forward to showing you my new work, literally I am changing the way we look at time.  It’s exciting and fun!  Make sure you subscribe to the feed and keep up with my progress, I hope it will be as interesting for you as it is for me. What to look forward to?

In the next month or so I should have a working prototype of one of the clock movements I plan on using.  It’s a simple idea based on an age old physics concept/theory.  Double Pendulums produce chaotic movement and happen to be adaptable in many ways.  If you Google search for “swinging sticks” you will find all kinds of cool art and sculptures based on the same idea.  But, no one has taken the concept to places I plan on taking it.  In other words, I believe my work will be something fun, interesting to look at as a kinetic work and worthy of being called a unique sculpture.  A nice combination of factors not easy to obtain, in my humble opinion.

Happy Birthday Katie

27 today! It’s getting close to being 30 something and I can remember being 30 something myself, like it was yesterday. I hope you have a great day and all is well and as always, I’m thinking of you. Love you :-)

Molly

Molly

My sweet Molly does two things besides waiting for me to feed her or smother her with attention.  She sleeps and dreams about me feeding her steak and she poops.

If only I could

If only I could write what I really think.  What I think when I’m going down the road in the middle of the night.  Nothing to look at, just the dark and the road ahead. Individual scenes here and there made from shadows and hue-less iridescent light quickly come and go. And then back to the dark I go. I’ve mentioned it before, it’s windshield time.  When you spend hour after hour behind any windshield, it shapes your thinking. It’s difficult to explain but I’ll try.  Read the rest of this entry…

Get stupid and start thinking

I’ve made a simple but obvious conclusion, again.  Most things worth doing are difficult if you want to do them right.  Relate this to what I have written in the past.  It’s been difficult and usually never completely right.  But, most everything has had purpose…(as if saying that makes it justified or acceptable).  For the most part it’s been an exercise in selling you something.  Either Purple Martin stuff or what I think is right or wrong in the world.  In both cases, I’m trying to sell you the idea that what I’m telling you, …you should believe.  The Purple Martin stuff works, at least people make purchases. Remote control digicam

Currently being seriously considered.  I have written extensively about why this may be a good idea.  Back in August I talked about Wireless remote control for a digiscope or videoscope user and for years I have been trying to marry any type of electronic camera to a rifle scope.  It’s just recently that I have made some great headway.
